The mission of the Prayer Quilt Ministry is to provide quilts or shawls to surround those in need with comfort, prayers and God’s love as they endure various life events.
After their completion, quilts and shawls are blessed, making them unavailable for sale. The act of blessing them, with each person in attendance touching them, is symbolic of laying on of hands, a tradition of Christian healing that goes back to the ministry of Jesus.
The Prayer Quilt Ministry also gifts quilts and shawls to church members who are living in facilities outside their homes or are homebound, those baptized in our church, members currently serving in the military, and those who we serve on our fall and spring mission trips.
What is the Prayer Quilt Ministry?
Started in September, 2013 with seven members, the Prayer Quilt Ministry is now a group of over twenty individuals representing a variety of ages that all share an enjoyable time together, stiching, laughing, and establishing friendships with other Christians. We exchange ideas, techniques, and are continually learning from each other as we work to spread the love of God through our quilts, shaws, and other projects.
How is the ministry funded?
This is a self-funded group with a majority of funds coming from the sale at the United Women in Faith Holiday Bazaar as well as the Spring Sale at Faith Church. We have received fabric and yarn donations, as well as monetary contributions, from those who believe in our mission.
Interesting in joining the Prayer Quilt Ministry Team?
Meetings are held the first and third Monday of each month in room 40 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. This is an enjoyable work time as the participants sew, crochet, or knit, develop new skills, exchange ideas, and share in Christian fellowship. Please contact the church office or Janice McDowell, 814-383-4816, if you know anyone who would benefit from receiving a quilt or shawl, or if you would like more information about the group.
